A 43-year-old man has been charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death in connection to a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 15 in Laval, Que.

On Thursday around 5:20 a.m, a motorist had stopped to change a flat tire on the northbound shoulder of the highway at the Gédéon-Ouimet Bridge.

While outside of his vehicle, the man was struck by an approaching truck. A spokesperson for Urgences-santé confirmed he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sûreté du Québec had been looking for the driver of the truck since Thursday, and say he turned himself in Friday morning. The driver was charged Friday afternoon.

Although the crash happened on the northbound side, traffic was backed up for at least 10 kilometres on the southbound side of the highway.
