Man shot by armoured car guard in Winnipeg charged with robbery

A 36-year-old man, who was shot while allegedly attempting to rob an armoured car in Winnipeg, has been charged.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition following the incident, which happened just before 1 a.m. Nov. 20 at a strip mall in the 800 block of Keewatin Street, outside of a TD Bank. He is now listed in stable condition.

According to police, a man attacked security guards with a large knife, prompting one of the guards to shoot in defence.

Sources told CBC News the man had a machete and was shot in the stomach, though police have not released that specific information.

One of the guards was cut in the hand and was treated and released from hospital.

The 36-year-old man is charged with robbery, wearing a disguise, and possession of a weapon.
