Man, 30, charged in stabbing death after fight at East York convenience store

Toronto police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a man after a fight inside an East York convenience store overnight.

Police say a 30-year-old man turned himself in on Tuesday and was charged with first-degree murder. He will appear in court Wednesday.

Officers responded to a call in the area of Donlands Avenue and O'Connor Drive around 3 a.m., where they found a 26-year-old man without vital signs at a 7-Eleven store.

He was rushed to a local trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead, said Toronto police homicide Det. Rob North.

Police have since identified the victim as Fesal Ahmed Mohammad Sobir.

According to North, "there was a brief altercation between a couple of individuals" that preceded the stabbing. He did not specify whether the stabbing occurred inside or outside the store.

Security cameras inside the store captured footage of the fight but it will not be released because it is being used as evidence in the investigation, police say.

Sobir's death marks Toronto's 16th homicide of the year.
