Man using Arlington crosswalk struck, killed by car; driver did not stop, police say

A driver early Sunday abandoned a car and ran toward an apartment complex after the vehicle struck and killed a man using a crosswalk at an Arlington intersection, police said, attributing the account to a witness.

The pedestrian, a 30-year-old man, died on West Pioneer Parkway at Center Street, Arlington police said.

The man was trying about 2 a.m. to cross from the north side of Pioneer Parkway to the south side when he was hit by a black Honda Civic traveling east along Pioneer Parkway, police said.

The driver of the Civic did not stop and drove away from the scene, police said.

Police found the Civic near the crash site and said officers saw multiple alcohol containers inside.

Police have not identified the driver. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the pedestrian’s name.
