Manitoba Hydro crews removing ice from power lines in western part of province

All available Manitoba Hydro crews are out working to remove ice and hoar frost from power lines in the Westman and Parkland areas of the province.

Ice has built up on many transmission and distribution lines over the past few days because of high humidity, near freezing temperatures, sleet and freezing rain.

There many be some power outages involved in clearing the lines.

Areas affected with power interruptions tonight are:

- San Clara.

- Shortdale.

- Roblin.

- Grandview.

- Gilbert Plains.

- Minnedosa.

- Carroll.

The Hamiota, Rivers, Killarney, Snowflake and Pilot Mound areas may also experience outages.

Work may continue to the end of the week depending on weather conditions.

If the ice is not removed, the weight can cause lines, insulators, cross arms and other hardware to break, resulting in unplanned outages of longer duration, Hydro said, adding if anyone sees a line lying on the ground, do not go near it as it is considered "live."
