Own a motorcycle? Manitoba Public Insurance says it has more coverage options for you.

The public auto insurer says starting on Monday, motorcycle owners will be able to buy rental vehicle insurance, extension loss of use coverage, excess value coverage and new and leased vehicle protection extension coverage from their Autopac agent.

"The new products will provide motorcycle owners with greater peace of mind and added convenience in the event of a collision. This is a positive step forward for motorcycle owners in our province," Ward Keith, MPI's acting vice-president of business development, communications and chief product officer, said in a news release Friday.

Keith cited a growing number of registered motorcycles and mopeds in the province, along with talks with owners through the Coalition of Manitoba Motorcycle Groups, for the introduction of the new options.

"Motorcyclists will now have extension insurance products on par with those of automobiles," said Brian Segal, the coalition's president.
