Maple Leafs release behind-the-scenes mothers trip video for Family Day

In honour of Family Day, the Toronto Maple Leafs posted and episode of Molson Canadian Presents The Leaf: Blueprint that takes you behind the scenes of the Leafs Mothers’ Trip back in December.

The club has held a Fathers’ Trip every season, where players’ fathers and father figures are recognized for helping get their sons to the NHL and are invited to join the team for a few games on the road. This year, the Leafs decided to give the moms some appreciation.

“I feel like as mothers we really don’t get as much appreciation, and I was the one who woke up at 5:30 in the morning to register Zach Hyman at a hockey program when he was 4 years old.” Vicky Hyman said. “The little appreciation and to spend time one-on-one with my son is so special.”

Spending time together and having their mothers being appreciated means as much to the players, as it did to their mothers.

“I think it’s important to recognize how much the hockey mom does for a young player early on and throughout their career.” Frederik Andersen.

“She’s probably one of the bigger reasons why I’m here. She’s the one who would always wake me up at 6 am and drive me to the rink.” Said Kasperi Kapanen. “She’s a hero, she’s everything to me.”

In the 11-minute-long video you see the mothers smiling ear-to-ear, having the time of their life.

“It’s a dream come true.” said Paula Dermott. “You just go day by day to try and get him to have his dream and to just have a few minutes with him and watching what he does, it’s pretty surreal”

A moment from the trip even went viral, when Mitch Marner’s mom, Bonnie Marner’s sweet dance moves were spotted while the Leafs were taking on the Panthers:

Towards the end of the video, Babcock addresses all of the mothers and says “this trip has been unbelievable” …“I’ve been on a lot of dads trip and have never seen any interaction like this, the love, the laughter, the fun, it’s spectacular.”
