Widow of ‘American Sniper,’ Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, will be at this Memorial Day event
Memorial Day, the day of remembrance for U.S. citizens who died serving their country, is Monday.
Here are ten events and ceremonies happening in and around Fort Worth to mark on your calendar.
Summer Up! Stockyards Style Memorial Weekend
Where: 131 E. Exchange Ave.
Bring out family and friends to the Stockyards for four days of rodeo, live music, games and giveaways.
The Professional Bull Riders Stockyards Showcase is on Thursday and the Stockyards Championship Rodeo is Friday through Sunday.
John Wayne Day is on Friday and the Wayne family will celebrate The Duke’s 116th birthday anniversary at the John Wayne: An American Experience Exhibit from 4-7 p.m.
Live music performances will take place Friday through Sunday along Exchange Avenue.
DFWSHOPZ Memorial Day Market
When: Saturday noon to 6 p.m.
Where: Magnolia Green Park 1201 Lipscomb St.
This free event will have local vendors, live music and food trucks for the whole family to enjoy. The Memorial Day Market is a pet-friendly event.
Memorial Day Family Fun Weekend
When: Saturday-Monday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, 8525 Garland Rd., Dallas
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden has something for everyone this Memorial Day weekend. A Country Critters petting zoo will be open for children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a story time at 10 a.m. and 10:30am.
A live pianist will play at Jeanne’s pavilion from noon to 2 p.m. and a live band will perform on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Honoring Hometown Heroes and a Field of Flags
Where: 3602 E US HWY 377, Granbury
An opening Memorial Day weekend ceremony in Granbury will take place Friday at 5 p.m. with special guest Taya Kyle, widow of U.S. Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.
Over 80 Hero Banners and 300 flags of Hometown Heroes will be displayed throughout Memorial Day weekend.
A special Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday featuring:

Laying of the Wreath by Gold Star Families
National Anthem sung by the Granbury High School choir
MCJROTC Honor Guard
Military static displays
Former Army Golden Knight Dana Bowman parachutes in with giant American flag

Fort Worth Memorial Day Service
When: Monday, 10 a.m.-11 a.m.
Where: Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N Sylvania Ave.
Remember those who died serving their country in this one hour service with U.S. Navy Captain Mark McLean, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare and WWII veteran Don Graves.
Lynn Smith Memorial Day Monday Classic Car Show
When: Monday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Lynn Smith Chevrolet, 925 North Burleson Blvd., Burleson
The Lynn Smith Memorial Day Monday Classic Car Show is a free event that will have BBQ, drinks, music and activities. Gates open at 8 a.m. Registration to participate in the car show is open to all vehicles and costs $25. There will be 60 awards including Best of Show, Sponsor’s Choice, Under Construction, Special Interest, Late Model and Rat Rod.
Memorial Day at La Gran Plaza
When: Monday, 11 a.m.
Where: La Gran Plaza, 4200 South Freeway
Fort Worth’s La Gran Plaza and American Legion Post #569 will honor U.S. fallen soldiers in this Memorial Day ceremony in the parking lot in front of flagpoles.
Vietnam veterans will share their memories of fallen comrades at this event and a presentation of the colors and the national anthem will also take place.
Memorial Day Ceremony at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery
When: Monday, 11 a.m.
Where: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will host public Memorial Day commemoration ceremonies at over 130 national cemeteries this Memorial Day weekend, including the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
