Matty Healy's Aunt Says He's "Not Surprised" by Taylor Swift's 'TTPD' Songs About Him

"We know a bit more about what went on than has been in the press."

When Taylor Swift announced that she was coming out with a new album The Tortured Poets Department this year, fans expected the record to reference her breakup with Joe Alwyn, as well as her new romance with Travis Kelce, but what they didn't expect was a number of songs seemingly dedicated to 1975 frontman, Matty Healy.

Much to the dismay of her fanbase, Swift briefly dated Healy in May 2023 following her split from Alwyn. Their relationship was short-lived, but apparently it was impactful enough for the pop star to pen several tracks about their summer fling. And according to Healy's aunt Debbie Dedes, the musician wasn't surprised by the mentions.

"Nothing surprises him any more," Dedes told The Daily Mail on Saturday. "He will not be surprised by the song. Him and her know what went on."

She continued, “[Taylor] writes about all her relationships, doesn't she? I don't think it will come as a shock to him at all," adding: "He's very happy in his new relationship so I'm sure he will be focusing on that.” Healy is currently dating model Gabbriette Bechtel.

Hinting that there's more to the story than Swift sings about on the album, Dedes added, "As my nephew, we know a bit more about what went on than has been in the press."

In TTDP, Swift appears to be talking about Healy when she sings about a man in a “Jehovah’s Witness suit” who “tried to buy some pills from a friend of friends of mine" in the song "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" (Healy notably wears a black suit onstage and has previously discussed his past heroin addiction). She also addresses criticism of her relationship with him on the tracks "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and “But Daddy I Love Him.”
