May long weekend campsite reservations up despite rain

Alberta campsites full this August long weekend

Manitobans are a hearty bunch and won't let rain put a damper on their May long weekend camping plans.

Manitoba Conservation's Tracy Elbourne said there's a 20 per cent increase in campsite reservations from last year's May long weekend.

"People are always anxious to get out on that first weekend. Hopefully, the soggy weather this weekend won't have any impact on their wanting to go out," said Elbourne.

Elbourne said despite the rain in the forecast, she's not aware of any cancellations.

"They know that May long weekend is often very iffy, in terms of wet or cold. And they are our really hardcore campers. They love getting out there," said Elbourne.

And Elbourne added there are still a number of prime camping sites available throughout Manitoba's provincial parks.
