Millertown driver pleads guilty to drunk driving causing death

A driver from Buchan's Junction has admitted to killing one man and injuring another while driving drunk in Millertown in 2015.

Reginald Howard White has pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm in connection to a vehicle rollerover in Millertown two years ago.

At the time, the RCMP said a passenger was thrown from White's vehicle when it crashed and rolled over at about 9:45 p.m., on June 4, 2015. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

That crash was the second of two in the same area within an hour, according to police.

White initially pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, but changed his plea on Monday in Provincial Court in Grand Falls-Windsor.

He remains in custody and is set to be sentenced on Friday.

A Provincial Court judge will hear the particulars of the incident as well as sentencing submissions from the Crown and defence lawyers.

Two sets of charges

White pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the 2015 incident after he was arrested again last month for allegedly violating his bail conditions.

Police have again accused him of driving while impaired — this time on a Sportsman ATV in Millertown in June 2017 — despite an order to stay away from alcohol and to not drive any motor vehicle.

Those new charges are expected to be addressed in court on Friday as well.
