Miss South Carolina week 2024 has arrived! Here’s what to know
It’s Miss South Carolina week in Columbia with 40 women vying to be the next Miss South Carolina and 34 competing for Miss South Carolina’s Teen has 34 competitors.
The teen finals are at 2 p.m. Saturday and Miss SC at 8 p.m. Saturday at Township Auditorium, a departure from previous years when the teen event was held on Friday night.
The new Miss South Carolina will go on to the Miss America contest.
The contestants have spent the week rehearsing and taking part in the preliminary rounds, which go toward selecting the top 15 semi finalists.
Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization will award $260,000 in scholarships, including $60,000 to Miss South Carolina and $12,500 to Miss South Carolina’s Teen.
Officials with the organization did not respond to multiple requests for comment on this year’s event and the changes the pageant has undergone.
Saturday night ends the reign of Miss South Carolina 2023 Jada Samuel, a Greenville resident who was Miss Bridge City. She is a digital marketing strategist and graduate of the University of South Carolina with a broadcast journalism degree.
Miss South Carolina Teen 2023 was Margaret Turner, Miss Lakeland’s Teen who is from Greenwood.
South Carolina has had two winners in the Miss America contest: Marian McKnight in 1956 and Kimberly Clarice Aiken in 1993. Six South Carolina women have been first runner up.
