Mississauga apartment fire forces third floor residents out for 2 hours
No one was injured in an early morning apartment fire in Mississauga that forced residents out of the third floor of a building for two hours.
Dan Green, acting platoon chief for Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, said firefighters received a call about the fire on Glen Erin Drive near Battleford Road at about 4:55 a.m.
One person was treated at the scene but not taken to hospital and all third floor residents have been allowed back into the building.
Firefighters reported that smoke and flames were visible from a third floor unit in the low rise building. The resident in the unit where the fire started was out of the unit when firefighters arrived but was missing her cat.
Green said firefighters were able to find her cat and reported that it was in good health.
"What happens with animals is they go and hide. They're scared. Sometimes, it takes us a while to find them. The good thing about animals, though, is that they are low to ground and the smoke and heat goes up," he said.
The fire inspector is on the scene. Cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Const. Paolo Carretta, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, said the fire was contained to one unit and police went to the scene.
