The mistake that got deli salad recalled from Aldi stores in Florida and 14 other states
One lot of Aldi Deli Macaroni Salad has been recalled from stores in 15 states after a mislabeling created a danger for those with a food allergy.
As Reser’s Fine Foods explained in its FDA-posted recall notice, the bottom label with the ingredients wasn’t for the deli macaroni salad, but for coleslaw. So, the label doesn’t reveal the presence of wheat. For those with a wheat allergy, that lack of warning can be anywhere from bothersome to fatal, depending on the intensity of the allergy.

What’s recalled comes in 32-ounce containers and has an expiration date of June 3, 2024. The salad went to stores in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont.
If you have this macaroni salad and there’s no chance of anyone with a wheat allergy eating it, carry on as normal. Otherwise, return it to the Aldi of purchase for a full refund.
