More road closures set for high-speed rail construction. Here are areas to avoid

Lane closures will be happening along Golden State Boulevard in northwest and central Fresno to allow for utility work related to construction of California’s high-speed rail project.

Work will begin Sunday night along Golden State Boulevard between Cornelia and Santa Ana avenues with crews for contractor Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons conducting nighttime lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through May 25. The construction area along Golden State crosses Shaw Avenue, a major northwest Fresno thoroughfare.

Signs will be in place to direct traffic through the area, and access is to be maintained for all nearby businesses and properties.

A short distance to the north, on Golden State between State Street and now-closed Carnegie Avenue, intermittent lane and shoulder closures are scheduled to begin Monday and continue through May 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

That segment of work also includes lane and shoulder closures along a short stretch of Barstow Avenue west of Golden State Boulevard to San Madele Avenue during the same hours and dates.

A few miles to the south, on Golden State between McKinley and Belmont avenues, crews will be closing lanes for work starting Monday and continuing through July 21. Closures will be intermittent from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during that construction period.

A detour will be in place for truck traffic heading east on Olive Avenue, with drivers being directed south on Mark Avenue, east on Belmont Avenue and then north onto Golden State Boulevard, according to information from the California High-Speed Rail Authority. Flag persons and signs will be in place to direct traffic.
