Morgan Wallen and Eric Church's 'Man Made a Bar' Hits No. 1 at Country Radio 5 Days After Chair-Throwing Arrest
On April 7, Wallen was arrested on three felony charges after allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of Church's six-story Chief's bar in Nashville
Less than a week after Morgan Wallen was arrested on three felony charges for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church's six-story Chief's bar in Nashville, the two artists scored a No. 1 hit at country radio with their collaboration, "Man Made a Bar."
"Man Made a Bar," originally released on Wallen's One Thing at a Time album in March 2023, reached the top slot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart on April 12 based on radio play from April 5-11, according to the publication.
Marking Wallen's 12th song to top the chart and Church's 11th, the track finds the two country stars singing lyrics about spending time at a bar and drinking to heal the pain of a breakup.
"God made the world in seven short days / He said it was good, I bet it was great / Then God made a man, and man got lonely," they sing on its chorus. "He said, 'Please, Lord, if I could only / Have an angel to hold in my arms' / So God made a girl, His best work of art / Oh, but He didn't make no place to go when she breaks your hеart / So man made a bar."
Wallen's alleged incident went down on April 7 at Chief's on Broadway, a newly opened bar owned by Church and AJ Capital Partners. According to a post shared by Metro Nashville police to X (formerly Twitter) at the time, two cops were standing in front of the establishment around 11 p.m. and watched the chair fall from the rooftop to street level.
The "Last Night" singer was subsequently charged and arrested with three counts of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, facing a $15,250 bail, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE.
“At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct," a statement by his attorney, Worrick Robinson, said at the time. "He is cooperating fully with authorities.”
Wallen is due to appear in court on May 3 for "settlement" in Nashville.
A legal expert recently told PEOPLE the musician's felony charges could each carry one to two years in prison plus probation, though the chances of him receiving a maximum sentence and consecutively serving each one are "very remote."
Following the ordeal, a source told PEOPLE Wallen wasn't expected at Chief's and didn't spend much time at the bar before allegedly throwing the chair. The insider added that most patrons and staff members weren't immediately aware of what happened.
"Morgan is generally a nice, fun person to hang out with, but when he gets going he doesn't know when to stop," a source told PEOPLE. "Morgan and alcohol is a problem and it's been a problem that keeps coming back around."
His arrest came days after he kicked off the 2024 leg of his One Night at a Time World Tour in Indianapolis, Indiana, which continues through August.
