Multiple collisions slow Deerfoot Trail traffic to a crawl

Multiple collisions slowed traffic dramatically Friday on Calgary's Deerfoot Trail.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle collision closed the northbound lanes between Heritage Meadows Road and Glenmore Trail S.E. That later reopened.

Southbound and northbound traffic had been delayed along the busy highway.

Southbound, there was a multiple-vehicle collision at Glenmore Trail S.E. and another at Deerfoot Meadows.

Northbound, two vehicles crashed northbound on the Calf Robe Bridge, in southeast Calgary. The city said there were multiple other collisions northbound between Southland Drive and Glenmore Trail.

Police were asking drivers to consider taking alternative routes.

Calgary has been dealing with slippery, snow-covered roads after heavy snow and freezing rain on Thursday. More snow is expected on Saturday.
