At least 5 people pepper-sprayed near Yonge-Dundas Square

Toronto police are searching for suspects after at least five people were pepper-sprayed in the Yonge Street and Dundas Street area Friday evening.

Const. David Hopkinson said the incident appears to have taken place on the north-east corner of the intersection around as people were emerging from the movie theatre.

Police were called to the area around 9:45 p.m. Friday for reports of an altercation involving five or six males, Sgt. Rob McDougall said from the scene. During the altercation one of the men deployed what he described as "a large can" of pepperspray.

All of the men since have fled the area, he said.

Initial reports said two suspects were seen running north on Yonge Street, Hopkinson said.

No suspect description was immediately available.

Police are now reviewing security footage to identify the suspects.
