Myers Park’s Teagan Reilly leads All-Observer high school girls’ tennis honorees

Myers Park sophomore Teagan Reilly is the Charlotte Observer girls’ high school tennis player of the year after going 30-1 in singles play this season.

Reilly won the SoMeck 4A conference and 4A West Regional titles, before finishing as a 4A state semifinalist.

Reilly, 59-3 in her Myers Park career, also led the Mustangs (21-0) to the North Carolina 4A dual team state championship. The Mustangs won their third dual team state title against New Hanover and Reilly, named MVP of the tournament, won her singles match by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Myers Park girls’ tennis coach Ed Flynn and Charlotte Country Day’s Calvin Davis share the All-Observer coach of the year award.

Flynn led the Mustangs to the unbeaten season and state title and is 165-7 over the past nine years, including winning 4A state titles in 2016 and 2022. Myers Park has been state runner-up five times under Flynn.

Davis led Country Day to a 20-0 record this season and a N.C. Independent Schools’ state title.

Currently in his 35th year at the school, Davis will be inducted into the North Carolina Tennis Association Hall of Fame on Jan. 27.

First team / singles

Madison Darnell, Highland Tech: The Rams’ sophomore became the first Gaston County girl to win an individual state title. She won the 1A title this season.

Luci Falls, Lake Norman Charter: The Knights’ sophomore was 28-1 this season, winning the South Piedmont 3A conference and 3A Midwest Regional title. The 3A state semifinalist led Lake Norman Charter to a 24-0 record and 3A state championship.

Sophia Harris, Charlotte Christian: The Knights’ junior is a three-time all-state performer. This season, Harris was 13-0 singles and was named CISAA conference player of the year.

Rennie Liu, Forestview: The Jaguars’ senior was the 3A state singles runner-up. She was also 3A West Regional and Big South conference singles champion.

Jeslyn Pratiknjo, Marvin Ridge: The Mavericks’ senior was the Southern Carolinas conference champion and player of the year for the second straight season. She teamed with her younger sister, Eleri, and reached the NCHSAA 4A state doubles quarterfinals, while leading Marvin Ridge (18-3) to a 4A state runner-up finish.

Teagan Reilly, Myers Park: The Mustangs’ junior was 30-1 in singles play, winning the SoMeck 4A conference and 4A West Regional singles titles. She was MVP on the Mustangs’ 21-0 state championship team.

Faith Valentine, Lake Norman: The Wildcats’ junior was the Greater Metro 4A conference singles champ as well as league player of the year. Valentine also won the 4A West Regional singles title and was 4A state state quarter-finalist.

Arden Anton, Sr./Anna Torstrick, Jr., Charlotte Country Day: The Buccaneers’ duo led Charlotte Country Day to a perfect 20-0 record, NCISAA 4A state title.

Anslee Falls, Jr./Eleina Moon, So., Lake Norman Charter: The Knights’ duo won the South Piedmont 3A and 3A Midwest Regional doubles title. Their only loss was in the 3A state doubles semifinals and they led Lake Norman Charter to a 3A state dual team championship with a perfect 24-0 record.

Emilee Ibsen, So./Avery Shaffer, So., Gaston Day: The Spartans’ duo led Gaston Day to a perfect 19-0 record and an NCISAA 2A state title. They were 18-1 this season.

Anne Mason Moore, Sr., Agnes Shinn, Jr., Myers Park: The Mustangs’ duo went 20-2 in doubles play, winning the SoMeck 4A conference and 4A West Regional titles. Mason Moore and Shinn reached the 4A semifinals.
