The 46-year-old Wichita man who had been in a standoff at an east Wichita hotel came out and surrendered to officers just before noon, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Nathan Gibbs said.

The U.S. Marshals Service and the sheriff’s office offender registration unit were going to arrest the man for violating the offender registration act when he ran into a room he had been staying in. A male and female who were in the room ran out as he barricaded himself inside, Gibbs said.

Gibbs said he believed the man was in Red Roof PLUS+, which is at Kellogg and Armour. A person who answered the phone at the hotel said it was at the Blue Way Inn & Suites Wichita East. The two share a parking lot.

A person who answered the phone at Blue Way Inn & Suites Wichita East said they had been closed for two months while doing renovations, but, when called again later, said they had vacancy.
