Nicola Coughlan Asked for More Nude Scenes in ‘Bridgerton’ as a ‘F**k You’ to Body-Shamers
While “Bridgerton” is known for its steamy sex scenes, Season 3 lead star Nicola Coughlan asked for even more sultry moments onscreen.
The actress told Stylist (via Buzzfeed) that she wanted to be “very naked” for a particular scene in the latest Netflix season.

“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,” Coughlan said of working with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought, ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked!'”
She added of collaborating with Talbot, “You go, ‘Ok, what do I want to show? What don’t I want to show? What’s scripted, and what do I want to add?'”
Coughlan is no stranger to clapping back at body-shamers. In a 2022 Instagram post, Coughlan asked audiences to not share opinions on her physique.
“It’s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions on how you look being sent directly to you every day,” she wrote at the time.
And Coughlan is enjoying stepping into the spotlight (and out of her robe) for the latest season: The star shared with the Los Angeles Times that she and co-star Luke Newton practically became “nudists” on set.
“By the end of the day, we were both lying under a blanket, not clothed, just chilling,” Coughlan said. “We were like, ‘This is why nudists do it.'”
The actress recently told IndieWire that despite being a natural “worrier,” she tried not to overthink becoming the lead star of the latest series. Coughlan has starred in “Big Mood” and “Derry Girls” as of late.
“The less time I have to think about stuff generally the better for me,” Coughlan said, “but I had a long time to think about [‘Bridgerton’ Season 3]. The way I counteracted that was: just work really fucking hard. Put your everything into this, have your head in the script the whole time, have everything planned out.”
