Nicolas Cage's son Weston Cage arrested months after 'mental health crisis'

Nicolas Cage's son, Weston Cage, has been released from jail after being arrested this week.

Weston Cage surrendered at a Los Angeles Police Department station Wednesday morning after a felony warrant for him was issued, an LAPD spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY Thursday. The 33-year-old was released on a $150,000 bond two hours later, records show.

Two weeks prior, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office reviewed details of an alleged April 28 incident involving Cage and opted to charge him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the LAPD, "Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury" at a downtown Los Angeles apartment complex. Officers responded to the scene, conducted interviews and completed a police report.

USA TODAY reached out to reps for Weston and Nicolas Cage for comment.

Weston Cage's mom Christina Fulton saw her son experience 'a mental-health crisis'

In a statement shared with USA TODAY Friday, Cage's mother, Christina Fulton, confirmed she was one of the victims in the April 28 incident and said she hoped her son receives "the help he desperately needs."

"On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 pm I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help. When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage," her statement read.

"Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the responding Police officers to detain him for a mental health evaluation, the Police officers refused my request and neglected my urgent need for my medical attention," she added. "As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s on-going mental health crisis. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs."

In May, TMZ shared photos of Fulton with injuries to her face. The outlet alleged it was due to a "verbal dispute" that allegedly turned into "a physical scuffle" between the mother-son pair. LAPD later confirmed to People that "a battery report was taken" at the time of the incident.

Fulton disputed this characterization of events, telling People that "Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident."

"On Sunday, April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis," she said, adding that she "acted swiftly to ensure his safety."

"Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience," Fulton concluded. "I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."

Who is Weston Cage?

Weston Cage, who is Nicolas Cage's oldest child, has appeared alongside his dad in several projects, including "Drive Angry," "Joe," "Lord of War" and "211."

In a 2015 interview with People, Nicolas Cage called his son a "total artist."

"He can do things I dream about doing … compose music, sing, act, sculpt and cook and now he is a loving father," he said. "To see my son with my grandson is as close to a sense of blissful completion I ever had."

The elder Cage is also father to Kal-El, 18, whom he shares with ex-wife Alice Kim, and 1-year-old daughter August, whom he shares with wife Riko Shibata.
