Rumors of a “Freaky Friday” sequel first began to swirl in October 2022, when Curtis told “The View” co-hosts that she had “already written to Disney” regarding a sequel. Since then, both Curtis and Lohan have been vocal about their desire to reunite for another body-swapping comedy.
On Friday, Curtis shared a photo with Lohan on Instagram, tagging Disney and captioning the snap, “DUH! FFDEUX!”
Disney released “Freaky Friday” in 2003, grossing $160 million at the worldwide box office. Andrew Gunn, who produced the first film, is producing the sequel, along with former Disney exec Kristin Burr. Disney’s release plan remains to be announced, including a date and a streaming or theatrical debut.
Lohan was most recently seen in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Irish Wish” and had a cameo in the 2024 “Mean Girls” reboot as the moderator of the Mathletes competition. She’s next set to star in Netflix’s “Our Little Secret” alongside Kristin Chenoweth and Ian Harding.
Curtis, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” will appear in this summer’s film adaptation of the popular video game “Borderlands” alongside Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart.
Ganatra is represented by CAA and Yorn Levine.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news.
