Fort Smith phone, internet service out due to damaged cable
Damage to a fibre optic cable has cut off telephone, internet and cable TV service to Fort Smith, N.W.T., says Northwestel, and there is no estimate yet when it will be fixed.
The company says the telecommunications disruption includes data, long distance calling, cable TV, internet and wireless.
Northwestel says the outage is the result of damage to a cable along Highway 5, caused by construction work unrelated to Northwestel.
The company says there is no definitive timeframe for the restoration of services and that residents should be prepared to be without telecommunications services overnight.
It says emergency services in the community have been notified.
