'He has not asked me': Vivek Ramaswamy says he's in dark on Trump VP stakes

ATLANTA - Vivek Ramaswamy said on Thursday night that presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has not asked him to be his running mate.

"He has not asked me to be his vice president," the former GOP presidential candidate told reporters during a press conference at the first presidential debate in Atlanta. "Whoever he asks is going to have, I think, a remarkable ability to serve this country in taking that America first agenda even further."

Trump had previously told NBC News he had decided on a running mate, and they could be in Georgia for the debate on Thursday.

Potential Trump running mates North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Reps. Byron Donalds of Florida and Elise Stefanik of New York have all made the trek to Atlanta.

Ramaswamy may be in the running, however, for other positions in a future Trump administration.

The former biotech CEO has hinted at a potential appointment as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He made border security a linchpin of his 2020 bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Since dropping out, the Ohio-born son of Indian immigrants has described immigration enforcement as an issue he is “passionate” about. During a recent podcast appearance, Ramaswamy said “we’ll see what happens in the next 10 months,” while talking about how he would handle the southern border crisis.
