Numbers drop for SCCDSB sunshine list
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board had a dramatic drop in employees on the 2023 Sunshine List, while the Lambton-Kent District School Board only increased by four.
According to the Public Sector Salary Disclosure, the St. Clair Catholic board reported that 114 employees earned salaries exceeding $100,000 in 2023.
The 2023 total represents a huge decrease from the 341 St. Clair Catholic employees who topped the $100-K salary plateau in 2022.
There is a simple explanation for the drop-off – there was an extra payday in 2022.
The 2023 Sunshine included 13 teachers, 23 principals, and six vice principals at the elementary school level and 30 teachers, two principals, and six vice principals at the secondary level. The 114 employees in the 2023 Sunshine list earned a combined $13,453,235.81.
Scott Johnson, Director of Education, earned the top salary of $251,361.38 in 2023, up from $228,958.86 in 2022.
Amy Janssens, Associate Director of Corporate Services and Treasurer, was second at $200,425.37.
Three superintendents rounded out the top five: Lisa Demers and Christopher Kehoe both earned $184,336.57, while Laura Callaghan earned $152,061.96.
James Duff, Executive Manager, Human Resources, and Antonio Montanino, Facilities Service Manager, both made $147,312.00, while Amanda Johnston, Admissions Coordinator, made $144,258.15, Marcie Myers, Manager, Financial Services earned $143,432.88, and Michael Giroux, elementary principal, rounded out the top 10 at $140,423.05.
Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2023, 60 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000, followed by 49 who received between $110,001 and $150,000.
Meanwhile, a total of 906 employees at the Lambton Kent District School Board topped the $100,000 salary plateau in 2023, up from 902 employees in 2022 and 905 in 2021.
John Howitt, Director of Education, earned the highest salary at $257,000.12, up from the $238,885.58 he took home in 2022 and $219,636.09 in 2021.
Brian Mckay, Associate Director of Corporate Services, earned the second-highest wage at $213,440.00.
Six superintendents followed - Angie Barrese, $200,670.73; Benjamin Hazzard, $193,555.39; Gary Girardi, $193,555.26; Mary Mancini, $192,115.26; Emily Dixon, $184,136.85; and Helen Lane, $156,927.59.
Carrielyn Smith, Systems Coordinator, was the ninth highest paid at $153,658.35, while Doug Bastard, Human Resources Manager, rounded out the top 10 at $148,407.08.
Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2023, 764 earned between $100,000 and $110,000, and 133 received between $110,001 and $150,000.
The Sunshine Club had 462 elementary school teachers, 51 principals, 14 vice principals, 299 secondary school teachers, 12 principals, and 13 vice principals.
The LKDSB had 18 consultants, 11 coordinators and six managers earn six-figure salaries.
