O’Fallon local scholars, Dec. 21 edition

Augustana College

The Augustana College Department of Music presented Christmas at Augustana Dec. 2-3 at Centennial Hall.

More than 200 student musicians took the stage to share their talents in what has become a highlight of the Augustana and Quad-Cities holiday season. Presented by Quad City Bank & Trust, Christmas at Augustana has thrilled audiences since 2008. The performance will feature the Augustana Brass Ensemble, Augustana Symphony Orchestra, Ascension Ringers, Augustana Choir, Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble and Augustana Concert Chorale.

This year’s Christmas at Augustana performers included Alia Barcus, a First Year Augie Ages major from O’Fallon, who performed in the Augustana Brass Ensemble.

Chadron State College

Seventy-seven candidates for graduate degrees were honored at Chadron State College’s Winter Commencement Friday, Dec. 15, in the Chicoine Center.

Among the graduates was Brian Dunham of Scott AFB, who earned a Master of Arts in Education.

Georgia Institute of Technology

James Kelly of O’Fallon has earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with High Honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Kelly was among approximately 1,725 undergraduate and graduate students who earned degrees during the Summer 2023 semester.

Mississippi State University

Cody Barnett of O’Fallon is among 178 Mississippi State students inducted into MSU’s National Society of Collegiate Scholars chapter.

NSCS inductees are first- or second-year undergraduate students who have completed credits equivalent to one term of full-time study and hold a cumulative 3.4 GPA.

The NSCS was founded in 1994 and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, and the society is a recognized organization at nearly 300 campuses across the U.S.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Nachole A. Carlson of O’Fallon was among 1,159 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises Dec. 15-16 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Carlson earned a Master of Science from the Office of Graduate Studies.

Virginia Military Institute

Riley Shultz, a native of O’Fallon, was recently initiated into the Virginia Military Institute Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 348 new initiates from 12 universities during October 2023.
