Off-duty police officer was driving truck that killed Brampton teen
An off-duty Peel police officer was behind the wheel of a truck that hit and killed a 13-year-old girl in Brampton Thursday, Peel Regional Police confirmed to CBC News Friday.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. in the Centre Street and Prouse Drive area. The girl was transported to a trauma centre by air ambulance but later died, police said.
On Friday afternoon, Const. Paolo Carretta confirmed that "an off-duty officer who was on his way to work and driving his personal vehicle" struck the girl.
"It's shocking and it's going to affect everyone on this street for the rest of their lives," neighbour Paul Dawe told CBC News.
"I couldn't believe it was her," Dawe added, his voice shaking. "It hasn't sunk in yet but I'm sure over the next few days it's going to get tougher."
Peel Police told CBC that no charges have been laid against the officer.
