Olympia police are asking for the public’s help after gunshots were reportedly fired in downtown Monday night.

About 7:30 p.m., multiple callers to 911 reported hearing the sound of gunshots in the area of Fourth Avenue East and Franklin Street.

Police arrived to find people fleeing the scene, Lt. Paul Lower said. Police could not find anyone injured or a person with a handgun.

However, they did find what appeared to be bullet strikes on the east wall of a building in the 200 block of Fourth Avenue East, Lower said.

Police also checked with area hospitals about a possible shooting victim and have reviewed video footage in the area, which shows people ducking and running, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
