Coroner identifies MS Coast man who died in Interstate 10 crash near D’Iberville

One person died Thursday after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near D’Iberville, Harrison County coroner Brian Switzer said.

Switzer identified the victim as Shelton Tillery, 28, of Ocean Springs. He died at the scene from blunt force trauma, Switzer said.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m. near the D’Iberville exit at the 47 mile marker, Switzer said.

Tillery was driving eastbound on I-10 when he lost control of his Ford Mustang, went across the grass median and into westbound lanes, where he spun and was struck by a car traveling westbound, Switzer said.

Tillery was wearing a seatbelt, Switzer said.

It is unclear what caused Tillery to lose control of the vehicle, but Switzer said the crash occurred at the same time as a heavy downpour.

The driver of the westbound car sustained no serious injuries, he said. No other occupants were in the cars.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned drivers to expect delays in the westbound lanes.

Law enforcement was near the scene directing traffic Thursday afternoon.

The area cleared of traffic by Thursday evening.

A Mississippi Department of Transportation map showed significant traffic delays in the area of a two-vehicle crash that killed one person in Harrison County.
