One dead after shooting Thursday afternoon in south Kansas City

A man is dead after a shooting in Kansas City Thursday afternoon.

Police were called shortly after 3 p.m. to the 2200 block of East 69th Terrace where they found an adult man unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of a residence, according to Kansas City police spokesperson Jacob Becchina.

The victim was declared dead at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the victim had an interaction with one or more unknown suspects at the location that ended in gunfire. The suspect(s) left the scene in an unknown direction.

The killing was the 79th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 106 homicides at this time last year.
