For a limited time, this cult-loved pick, which regularly retails for $99.99, has dropped by 40% to just $59.99, making it a no-brainer to grab for your toddler or school-aged kid. The device comes equipped with a 7-inch screen, 16 gigabytes (GB) of storage for downloaded content (you can purchase a microSD memory card to expand storage up to 512GB) and up to seven hours of battery life. Kids can also connect to WiFi to access the internet, as well as view downloaded content when a connection isn't available.

We we tried this model out, we found that while it was slightly outdated compared to our favorite kids' device, the Fire HD 8 kids' edition (also on sale for $89.99) and the Fire HD 10 kids' edition (on sale for $149.99): It lacked an HD screen and the touchscreen wasn't always as responsive. The rest of the kid-friendly apps and features, however, were largely the same.

A few of those features, in particular, make this tablet perfect for young kids aged roughly 7 and under. The first is that it comes with a kid-proof case in blue, pink or purple to protect it from drops, bumps, scratches and falls that can commonly occur as a result of kids' notoriously slippery fingers. And, should the unthinkable happen, there's a two-year, worry-free replacement guarantee—no questions asked. That means your child can knock this tablet about, bring it on road trips, take it to a friend's house or play with it in the park, and you can rest easy that it'll be protected in more ways than one.

The case also has a built-in stand for propping the tablet up as your little one watches videos or plays educational games.

The second noteworthy feature? The Amazon Kids+ FreeTime Unlimited subscription. This included service gives you one year of access to more than 20,000 apps, games, books, videos, audiobooks and bilingual, educational content that's specifically curated for the younger set. (After your free year, you can choose to keep your subscription for jus $2.99 per month.)

Last but not least are the robust, built-in parental controls. With these, you can set educational goals for your kids so their screen time won't be wasted on mindless tasks; set time limits; and filter content, so you know they'll only be viewing things that are age-appropriate. Can you say peace of mind?

If you're looking for the best of the best, you'll want to turn your attention to the Fire HD 8 kids' edition, which will up your internal storage from 16GB to 32GB (and can accept microSD cards up to 1TB in capacity) and has a battery life that lasts up to 12 hours. It also adds USB-C charging and has a higher-resolution display, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support (for a more immersive audio experience) and a faster processor. In addition to all of that, it's 8-inch screen is slightly larger. If you feel the upgrades are worth the extra $30, this is definitely your model.
