Oshawa Boston Pizza charged for overserving alcohol in traffic death

Employees of a Boston Pizza location in Oshawa have been charged with over-serving alcohol after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car not far from the restaurant.

A 36-year-old man was struck by a silver Dodge Neon early Thursday morning at the intersection of Harmony Road and Taunton Road East, and later died from his injuries according to Durham Regional Police.

Three Boston Pizza employees and the restaurant have been charged. Kirandeep Khaira, Harinder Brar and Alicia Brunea face charges of selling liquor to an intoxicated person.

Sgt. Bill Calder said each of the three people and Boston Pizza could face a penalty of up to $15,000 if found guilty, under Section 29 of the the Liquor License Act. These are not criminal charges and they don't face jail time. The case is under review by the Liquor Board, and separate from the police. Boston Pizza could have its license revoked or suspended.
