Paramedics kept busy with weekend Calgary-area crashes

Paramedics are saying the only way to reduce motor vehicle collisions is to slow down after responding to several crashes Saturday afternoon in the Calgary area.

EMS responded to a collision on Highway 1 near Range Road 33 west of Calgary around 11 a.m.

Three motorcyclists were taken to hospital after colliding with a pickup truck. A man in his 50s has stable but serious injuries. A man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s received minor injuries. Occupants of the truck weren't injured.

About 20 minutes later there was another collision but with no injuries.

Then just before noon, a sedan rear-ended a pickup truck, EMS said.

The female driver of the sedan was transported to hospital with minor injuries and the people in the truck weren't injured.

"EMS advises motorists to never exceed the posted speed limit and to ensure that there is at a minimum of four to five seconds travelling/stopping distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you," paramedics said in a statement.
