Parks Canada issues dangerous surf warning for P.E.I. National Park

Parks Canada has issued a warning about surf conditions in P.E.I. National Park.

Winds on the North Shore are gusting up to 50 km/h, creating high surf conditions in the park.

People on North Shore beaches are advised to stay out of the water. Rip currents in high surf conditions can quickly carry swimmers away from shore.

Rip currents are caused by water from high surf rushing away from the shore in narrow channels.

It is impossible to swim against a rip current. If you are caught in one, you should swim parallel to the shore until you are out of it, and then make your way back to the beach.
