Driver suspected in hit-and-run crash in midtown Sacramento arrested, police say

Detectives investigating a hit-and-run announced the arrest of a man they suspect was the driver in the Friday incident that left a pedestrian in critical condition.

The hit-and-run involving the pedestrian was reported shortly before 1 a.m. on 16th Street, between V and U streets, just north of the Highway 50 portion of the Capital City Freeway.

Officer Cody Tapley, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman, said officers arrived at the scene and found a man who had suffered serious injuries; the 32-year-old man remains in critical condition, Tapley said.

Tapley said the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian drove away before officers arrived. He said investigators did not have any suspect description to release.

On Friday night, police announced the arrest of a 41-year-old Sacramento resident in connection with the crash after detectives “positively identified the suspect vehicle,” Tapley said.

The man remains in custody in the Sacramento County Main Jail and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on one count of felony hit-and-run with injury.

He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
