PHOTOS: Justin Trudeau meets with leaders in Lima, Paris and London

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in the midst of a trip that will see him visit three countries in 10 days.

The foreign tour marks the prime minister’s first trip abroad since his controversial visit to India, which led to political consequences still being discussed months later in Ottawa.

During his first stop, Trudeau landed in Lima to attend the eighth Summit of the Americas. The meeting serves as a gathering for heads of state from North and South America. However, this summit did not include U.S. President Donald Trump, who opted to stay in Washington, D.C., to handle the situation in Syria.

U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence attended the summit and met with Trudeau as the two countries inch closer toward a potential new NAFTA deal. Pence says an updated agreement could be announced soon. The vice-president also thanked Trudeau for Canada’s support of U.S., French and British military action in Syria, which Trudeau called “unfortunate but necessary,” The Canadian Press reports.

While in Peru’s capital, the prime minister delivered a speech and conversed with foreign leaders.

Trudeau tweaked his schedule to fly back to Ottawa instead of Paris in order to meet with the premiers of British Columbia and Alberta regarding the differences of opinion on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, which has been approved by the federal government. No new agreements came from that meeting.

The prime minister then flew to Paris for his first official visit to France in his role. Trudeau reconnected with French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders before becoming the first Canadian prime minister to address the French National Assembly.

Trudeau is rounding out his trip with a visit to the U.K. to meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and the Queen. The prime minister also attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London.
