Photos: National Catholic pilgrimage comes to metro-east

Hundreds of Catholics filled the streets of Collinsville in observance of a nationwide pilgrimage on July 8.

The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is a nationwide pilgrimage featuring multiple routes, including one that goes through the metro-east, and ends in Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress July 17.

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield accepted the national traveling monstrance from Bishop Michael McGovern of the Belleville Diocese, and together they led a procession of hundreds from Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church to a cemetery of the same name half a mile away.

The procession is part of a nationwide eucharist pilgrimage, with Catholics traveling from San Francisco to the endpoint of the pilgrimage, Indianapolis, picking up fellow pilgrims along the way.
