Korean Families Torn Apart By War Brought Together In Rare Reunion

Hundreds of South Koreans are travelling to North Korea to visit family members in a rare event that is reuniting those separated by war. The meeting will take place over a period of seven days at a resort close to the border of the two countries. The meetings are organised by the Red Cross, and tens of thousands of people apply to be involved. Only a small percentage can take part however, with elderly people more likely to be selected. Travel and communication between North and South Korea are usually impossible, and these reunions only take place sporadically at times of lower tensions between the two nations. The countries are still technically at war, since the conflict ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.
