Pilot Killed in Jet Crash Near Nellis Air Force Base

Nellis Air Force Base has confirmed that a pilot was killed when a contracted military aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff on May 24.

This footage, by Cristian Mendoza, shows smoke rising from the scene of the crash in a residential area of Las Vegas, close to the base.

The aircraft, which crashed at around 2:30 pm outside the southern edge of the base, was owned and operated by Draken US, a Florida company that provides adversary air support to Nellis Air Force Base, officials said.

“The men and women of Nellis AFB send our deepest condolences to the teammates, friends and family of our fallen Draken wingman,” officials said in a statement.
