Police seek public's help after Don Mills Road shooting Saturday morning

Toronto police are asking the public for help locating and identifying three men after a shooting in the Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East area early Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call for a shooting at 5:55 a.m. Saturday after they say a 25-year-old man, who was talking with some friends at a car, was shot.

Police say three men approached the group and that one of them had a gun.

The 25-year-old was hit once in his leg and the group of three fled southbound on Don Mills Road.

Paramedics say he was sent to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police say he is expected to make a full recovery.

'We want this gun off the street'

Detective David Johnson spoke to reporters at a press conference Saturday afternoon.

"We want to notify the community because this is a quiet community, it's a safe community, and we would like the community to know that we're outraged this occurred," said Detective David Johnson.

"There is a lot of gun violence in Toronto and we're doing everything we can to get the guns off the street. We want this gun off the street and we want the suspects off the street as well and held accountable for their crime."

Police say they recovered eight shell casings at the scene.

Johnson said they're in the "infancy stage" of the investigation and cannot say whether the shooting was targeted.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 33 Division or Crime Stoppers.
