Fatal shooting victim identified
Toronto police have identified the victim of Friday's fatal shooting in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood.
Police say Paul Fitzgerald Benn, 38, was shot "multiple times" outside a housing complex at 70 Cather Cres., near Lawrence Avenue West and Allen Road. Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots just after 7 p.m. Friday.
Benn was found lying on a grassy area near the housing complex. He was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Det. Frank Skubic said Saturday the shooting happened in daylight and police have received information from people in the area.
"I’m certain there are other witnesses that we can meet with who can provide us with more information," said Skubic.
He said Benn was alone and was leaving his residence when he was shot.
The shooting is Toronto's 15th homicide of 2012.
