Police lay murder charge in death of man found in Winnipeg dumpster

Winnipeg police have charged one person with first degree murder and two others with manslaughter weeks after Garnet Walter Williams was found dead in a dumpster earlier this month.

On Aug. 10, police located Williams' body in a garbage container in the 400 block of McGee Street following reports of a dead body.

Investigators have determined Williams was assaulted on July 31 while with a small group of people at an apartment suite in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue, police said.

The 43-year-old was assaulted by more than one person after an argument and confined in a suite for 10 days and died of his injuries, police said. His body was then put in the dumpster.

On Friday, Jeremy Lee Allen, 27, Miranda Nancy LeClaire, 32, and Lyle Barrow, 30, were arrested. Allen was charged with first degree murder, while LeClaire and Barrow were charged with manslaughter.

All three are from Winnipeg, police said.

A 25-year-old woman was also arrested and charged earlier with the offence of indignity to a human body. A 56-year-old man is facing the same charge.

All five, save for the 56-year-old man, remain in police custody.
