A 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital Monday night after a man allegedly broke into her home and sexually assaulted her.

Windsor police say they responded to a home in west Windsor around 11 p.m. for a report of a break-in and determined a man had broken into the home and sexually assaulted a woman before fleeing the home.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police say they located and arrested a suspect, a 44-year-old man, in the 1000 block of Highland Avenue.

The complainant and suspect are known to each other, prompting police to say they have not released the man's name to protect the woman's identity.

There is no ongoing risk to public safety, police say.

The man has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon and break-and-enter.
