Police no longer think man found dead in Wichita, Kansas park was shot
A 54-year-old Wichita man originally thought to have been fatally shot Thursday morning in Fairmount Park is now believed to have died from a medical emergency, Wichita police Lt. Aaron Moses said.
Police were called at 7 a.m. to a reported shooting at the park, which is near 17th and Hillside in north Wichita. Timothy Dukes was dead when first responders arrived.
“When officers arrived, they located a (male) who has not been identified at this time with a traumatic injury” that was originally thought to be a gunshot wound, Moses said. The coroner’s office determined it wasn’t a gunshot wound and “we believe this death to be the result of a medical emergency at this point.”
The 911 caller said they found a man by the stop sign at 15th and Vassar with a gunshot wound to his head, according to 911 emergency communications scanner traffic.
