Temple hit and run: Man turns himself into police

Temple hit and run nets charges against Calgary man

A man has turned himself into Calgary police following a hit-and-run incident in Temple that sent a woman to hospital.

It happened at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the 5700 block of Temple Drive northeast, police said.

A 38-year-old woman was taken to Foothills hospital in serious condition and two children, ages 2 and 4, were taken to Alberta Children's Hospital as a precaution. They have been released.

Police say the victims were in a marked crosswalk when a white, compact car struck the woman, carrying her on the hood of the vehicle for some time before she hit the ground.

"From what I understand from the witnesses, yes, they were in a marked crosswalk and the traffic signals for the pedestrian crossing were activated," said Acting Sgt. Jeff Liemer.

Fatal hit and run on Monday

Earlier this week another hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 33-year-old woman.

Farida Abdurahman was struck by a car as she crossed Centre Street North near 43rd Avenue in Highland Park late Monday night.

A 58-year-old man with previous driving-related convictions was later arrested and charged with hit and run causing death.
