Police reopen Hwy. 417 from Ottawa to Quebec border

White-out conditions were seen here on Highway 416 near Manotick Sunday.

Police have reopened a 100-kilometre section of Highway 417 from Ottawa's east end to the Quebec border after high winds and snow created dangerous white-out conditions in the region forcing a closure Sunday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police closed the 417 between Walkley Road and the Quebec border in North Glengarry township due to severe weather conditions. The highway closure was later revised slightly east, from Anderson Road to the border, as the weather system moved east.

OPP also closed Highway 138, which extends from the 417 east of Casselman, Ont., south down to Cornwall, Ont.

OPP Const. Peter Robertson said they dealt with many collisions but none were serious.

Ottawa police also closed Leitrim Road between Bowesville and Limebank roads due to "extremely poor road conditions and visibility," as well as icy driving conditions.

Police had closed Eagleson Road between Fallowfield Road and Perth Street before later reopening the road as conditions improved.

All the roads have since been reopened.
