Missing 93-year-old woman in Victoria located, taken to hospital

A 93-year-old woman who went missing while visiting Victoria has been found after spending more than 24 hours lost in the city.

Victoria police say a passerby spotted Virginia Leong in View Royal around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and called for an ambulance.

"Being 93 [years old] and outside potentially for over 24 hours, there is some obvious concern," said Const. Matt Rutherford with the Victoria police.

Leong is receiving treatment at a Victoria hospital, but no other details have been released on her condition.

The search for Leong began Monday morning when she did not return from a walk in the Gorge area of the city where she was staying with family.

She lives in Vancouver and was not familiar with the streets.

Leong was found several kilometres away from where she left for her walk.

Military police, Metchosin Ground Search and Rescue, the Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization and the Victoria Fire Department all assisted with the search.

Victoria police are thanking everyone who helped in the search or shared information about Leong on their social media networks.
