Police seeking suspect in two sexual assaults the same night in Forest Lawn

The Calgary Police Service is looking for help identifying a man believed to be connected to two sexual assaults in Forest Lawn last week.

On Aug. 8, around 10:30 p.m., a man in a black truck approached a 19-year-old woman in the 3800 block of 17th Avenue S.E.

According to investigators, the man offered the woman a ride and drove her east of the city limits, where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was able to get away and ran toward a nearby car for assistance.

Investigators are asking the victim to please contact police with current contact information.

Just before 11 p.m. that same night, a woman in the area of 36th Street S.E. and 16th Avenue S.E. was offered a ride by a man, whom police believe is the same suspect from the first incident.

When the woman in her 30s declined the ride, the man attempted to force her into his truck, police say.

The second victim was able to escape thanks to the help of a Good Samaritan who was driving past and stopped to offer assistance.

The suspect is described as Caucasian and middle-aged with shoulder-length blond hair and a goatee. He smelled strongly of cigarette smoke.

The truck is described as a black, older model, two-door pickup and may have a rack along the rear window. There may also be tools and coveralls in the bed of the truck, and a diamond- or hexagon-shaped silver ashtray inside the cab.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents to contact the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or www.calgarycrimestoppers.org.
