Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 17)

Miami-Dade County’s best continued to shine and delivered more early season highlights in spring sports last week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 21, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Morrison Hadad, Belen Jesuit, boys’ volleyball: Hadad led the Wolverines to a repeat championship of the Jungle Queen Invitational. Hadad had 13 kills, seven digs, and four aces in the finals against Orlando Timber Creek.

Samuel Alonso, True North, baseball: Alonso pitched three hitless innings, striking out eight in a 2-1 win over Plantation American Heritage.

Anthony Espinoza, Miami Springs, baseball: Espinoza tossed six shutout innings and struck out 11 to lead the Hawks to a 3-0 win over Archbishop Carroll.

Joshua Cardoso, COHEA, baseball: Cardoso pitched five hitless innings and struck out 11 to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over Varela.

Ava Alvarez, Palmetto, flag football: Alvarez threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead the Panthers to a 33-8 win over Homestead and their first GMAC flag football championship.
